Create DBMS Policy

To create a policy for DBMS, click Policy > DBMS. The Add Policy button will allow you to create a policy.

On clicking the Add Policy button, the New Policy screen appears. The New Policy screen is divided into two sections.

  1.  The top section displays the fields in which the user needs to provide the policy name and its description.

  2. The bottom section displays the list of all Pre-Defined Sensitive Types, Custom Sensitive Types and Masking/CUPS options. Using Masking/CUPS option, you can protect the sensitive information.

DBMS Add Policy

Enter the following details to create a policy.

  1. Policy Name: Enter the name of the policy. The name must be unique for each policy. Blank spaces and special characters are not allowed in this field except _ (underscore) and – (dash).

  2. Description: Enter a brief description for the policy. This field accepts letters, numbers, symbols as well as special characters. It can hold 256 characters.

  3. Include Privacy Dashboard View: Check this option, if you want to display the data related to the policy in the Privacy View tab under the REPORTS module.

  4. Cancel: Click the Cancel button if you do not want to save the changes.

  5. Save: Click the Save button if you want to save changes.

  6. Sensitive Type List: A list of all the Pre-Defined and User-Defined Sensitive Type is displayed in the bottom section of the screen along with the Masking and CUPS options.


    To include the Sensitive Type in the policy, check the checkbox(s) available with the sensitive type name(s). To select the entire group of Sensitive Type, check the checkbox(s) available with the Sensitive Group name(s).

    E.g., in the above image, to select the entire group of credit card, the checkbox available with the Credit Card Sensitive Group name has been checked. Similarly, to select only one Sensitive Type in the entire group, the checkbox available with the DOB (BEST SUITED for structural data) has been checked.

  7. You can define a Sensitive Type in the New Sensitive Type tab displayed under the Sensitive Type Manager screen.

  8. On clicking Masking Option drop-down next to the selected sensitive type, displays the list of all supported Masking Options. Select the required masking option. To know more, refer Protection Options.

  9. The bottom section also displays the CUPS options. There are six parameters for CUPS option.

    1. Consistent (C)

    2. Unique (U)

    3. Persistent (P)

    4. Keep Null

    5. Stateless (SL)

    6. Report Unique and Total Count

  10. To use the CUPS functionality, check the Consistent, Unique, Persistent, Keep Null, SL, Report Unique and Total Count checkboxes, as deemed fit, corresponding to Sensitive Types displayed under the New Policy screen.

  11. Click Save button to save the policy in the system, else click Cancel button.

  12. Click Save As button, if you want to save the policy with the same configuration but with the different name.
