Masking/Field Encryption - AWS

Masking or Field Encryption hides sensitive data in the target source system by replacing it with a system generated value. PK Protect provides various masking options to ensure the usability of data after it has been protected. Masking/Field Encryption can be applied on structured as well as unstructured data. For more details, refer to Masking Option. Following options are available to customize a Masking/Field Encryption task:

  1. (Re)Scan All Files: To scan all the files i.e., old, and new for a given connection, check the (Re) Scan All Files checkbox. If the option is not checked, then Incremental Scanning is performed i.e., only newly added files will be scanned.

  2. Skip Files with No Extension: Check this checkbox to skip the scanning of the files which have no extension. Once the task has been executed successfully, the result can be seen under the Skipped Files tab of the By Task screen for the Results module. The reason for skipping the file will be cited as File Name without extension under the Skipped Reason column.

  3. Structured: Check the structured option if the data that needs to be masked is structured. On checking this checkbox, the Output Column Form drop-down is enabled. By default, Replace is selected in this field. The drop-down displays following options:

    1. Replace: Selecting this option will replace the original value of the field with the masked value.

    2. Add Column: Selecting this option will add the mask value in another column of the same file.

    3. Add within Column: Selecting this option will append the mask value in the same field with the original value. The masked and original value is separated by the delimiter.

To proceed further for remaining steps, refer to step 4 of Create AWS task.
