Masking is a process of hiding original data with the modified content. It is an irreversible process in which original data cannot be restored once applied. The masking feature is supported solely in RDBMS module of PK Protect. In this feature, PK Protect supports more than 24 masking options which can be used to protect the data in various relational databases. To know more, refer Protection Options.
Masking/Field Encryption and Decryption
The Masking/Field Encryption is a process in which original data is encrypted using an encryption key. In Decryption process, the data is decrypted back to its original value using the key that was used for encryption. This protection feature can be applied either by specifying the structure of the data or by detecting the sensitive types in the object. This feature is supported in AWS, Azure, HDFS, and Files module of PK Protect.
Row Encryption & Decryption
The Row Encryption is another form of protection options that is used for encrypting the data in the files or objects. This option is applicable only on the text files. It encrypts the entire row of the file where sensitive data exists. In Decryption process, the encoded file or an object can be decoded back to its original form. This feature is supported in AWS, Azure, HDFS, and Files module of PK Protect.
FP Encryption & Decryption
The FP (Format Preserving) Encryption encodes the original value in the target file with the system generated values. This option preserves the format of the data when the encryption is done. The data is encrypted in such a way that output is in the same format as the input. In Decryption process, the encrypted data is decoded back to its original form. This feature is supported in AWS, Azure, HDFS, and Files module of PK Protect.
