Installation Instructions

Double click the Smartcrypt installer package provided from your PKWARE representative.

Press, "Continue" to be guided through the steps necessary to install the Smartcrypt Client for Mac.

 

Read through the software license agreement. Click, "Continue" to progress through the installation.
After pressing, "Continue" a prompt will show to verify that you agree to the terms of the software license agreement. Click "Agree" to continue the software installation.

 

Click, "Install" to perform a standard installation of Smartcryt for Mac.

Enter the administrative password to authorize the installation of Smartcrypt for Mac
Verify the installation has completed by seeing this prompt and click, "Close"

Limitations and Restrictions

The following section describes the difference in capabilities between the Mac Windows client functionality

  • General
    • Mac is unable to save secure plugins
    • The Mac client 'Options' user interface supports fewer controls for extraction operations
    • The Mac client 'Options' user interface supports fewer controls for compression operations
    • Mac does not support deployments from the SEM
  • Email
    • Mac does not support the secure Outlook Plugin
    • Mac does not provide the Mimeviewer for EBE encrypted email
  • Redaction
    • Mac agent / client does not support the redaction capability
  • Encryption / Decryption
    • Mac does not support the self-extractor option for the decryption of files
    • Mac does not support file name encryption
    • Mac does not support OpenPGP
  • Lockers / Assignments
    • Mac does not support Advanced File Attribute Reporting
    • Mac does not support the exclusion of System Files from Locker and Assignment policies
  • Classification
    • Mac agent / client does not support the creation, upload or deployment of Classification Policies through the Smartcrypt Enterprise Manager (SEM)
    • Mac agent / client does not support the ability to create a Classification Discovery remediation, and therefore does not support automated Classification
    • Classification with Mac clients is supported only through manual configurations
      • Policy creation and the deployment / distribution of those policies to the clients, must be performed manually and independently from SEM
      • Classification of documents can be conducted manually through the supported MS Office applications. (Outlook, Word, Excel, Powerpoint)
