Select Files

You select files in an archive to do things with them. For example, if you want to extract only certain files, you can select just the files you want to extract.

You can also select files to delete, and copy or move to another location in the archive.

Ways to Select Files

Smartcrypt lets you select files by using the standard Windows mouse and keyboard techniques, but Smartcrypt also provides commands that give you some more powerful ways.

Note: The commands described below operate on all files and folders currently listed in the right-hand pane of the main window in Explorer view.

To select all files and folders, do one of the following:

  • Right-click a file to open its context menu, choose the Select menu, and choose Select All.

  • Right-click an empty area in the main window to open the main window context menu, choose the Select menu, and choose Select All.

To use the advanced filters to select files, do one of the following:

  • Right-click a file to open its context menu, choose the Select menu, and choose Select Special.

  • Right-click an empty area in the main window to open the main window context menu, choose the Select menu, and choose Select Special.

The Filter Properties dialog opens. In the tabs of this dialog, you can set filters to select only files that are of a certain type, size, date, age, and so on. Read how to use filters here.

Note: Smartcrypt lets you use the advanced filters for two different operations:

  • To select files: This is what the Select Special command does. You can then do a variety of things with the selected files.

  • To screen a set of files that you have already selected to add or extract: This is what the Advanced filter setting does in Compression options and Extraction options.

Filter settings that you make in Options are applied only when adding or extracting files and only if the Advanced filter setting is selected there. This use of advanced filters is completely independent of their use with the Select Special command.

To invert the selection so that files that are selected are unselected, and files that are not selected are selected, do one of the following: Right-click a file to open its context menu, choose the Select menu, and choose Invert Selection.
