The External screen provides a way to share the external community smartkeys with external participants. Using this screen, you can manage externally shared smartkeys in PEM Administrator.

You must create an External Proxy Account before creating an External Community Smartkey. The external sharing of smartkeys will be done through the proxy account.

Adding an External Proxy Account

Perform the following steps to create an External Proxy Account:

1. Click the Add button in the External Proxy Account This opens the Add External Proxy Account screen.

2. Provide a name to the External Proxy Account.

3. Provide the email address of the user who will own all external smartkeys.

4. Click the Save button to save the details, else click the Cancel button.

*Note: You must own at least one authorized domain to successfully create a proxy account.

Adding an External Community Smartkey

After successfully creating an External Proxy Account, you can create external smartkeys in PEM Administrator.

Perform the following steps to create a smartkey:

1. Click the Add button in the External Community Smartkey This opens the Add External Community Smartkey screen.

2. Provide a name to the external community smartkey.

3. Enter any additional comments, if desired.

4. Enter the name of an Active Directory user or group. This is used to assign the smartkey to the specified users or groups in the organization.

5. Enter the name of the external participants to whom you want to assign the smartkey.

6. Set the security level for the external community smartkey in the range of 0-10. It will trigger the MFA policy after the threshold has been met. The higher the value, more will be the security level.

7. Click the Save button to save the configuration details.

*Note: The MFA policy will be triggered only when the security level of the smartkey is greater than or equal to the security level of the MFA Policy.

You can edit and delete the smartkeys as you deem fit. After successfully creating the smartkey, you can view it in the External Community Smartkeys panel. It shows the name of the smartkey, internal and external users that have access to the smartkey along with other information such as, any additional comments, total number of encryptions performed using the smartkey, last time when the smartkey was used for encryption, total number of decryptions performed using the smartkey, last time when the smartkey was used for decryption, Unique Reference Name (URN) of the smartkey, and date and time when the smartkey was last updated.
