How to Perform Email Remediation

This section elaborates the process of creating and executing Email Remediation. Following are the steps:

  1. The first step is to add the PK Protect Outlook Add-In in the Outlook 365 application. This feature allows you to protect sensitive information in the email messages. To know more on how to install PK Protect Outlook Add-In, refer Installation of PK Protect Outlook Add-In.

  2. In the second step, set the email configurations in the Email Settings panel of the PEM environment. This panel can be accessed via Archive > Email. To know more about each setting, refer Email Settings.

  3. The next step is to define a filter in the Discovery Bundles/Regex/Redaction/Dictionary screen. These are the sensitive types which the PEM Agent locates in the email message body/subject. To know more on how to create bundles, refer the following:

    1. To create Discovery bundle, refer Create a Discovery Bundle.

    2. To define Redaction bundles, refer Create a Redaction bundle.

    3. To define Regex, refer Add Regular Expressions.

      1. To add entries in Dictionary, refer Add Custom Dictionaries.

Post creating Custom Dictionary and Regexes, you need to define Discovery Bundle.

  1. In this step, define the remediation in form of action or/and prompt, that will take place in the email message body, subject, or the attachment. While creating remediation action, select different remediation options that will execute on email. To know more on how to create a remediation action or prompt for email, refer the following:

    1. To create remediation action for email, refer Add a Remediation Action for Email.

    2. To create prompt for an email, refer Add a Prompt for an Email.

  2. In the last step, define email policy in the PEM Administrator. These policies are used to create security policies to protect sensitive information in the email message. In case if no policy is defined, the user will automatically lie in the default policy i.e., Site Wide Default. To know more on how to create a policy, refer Define Email Policies.

Once the remediation takes place successfully, the information in the email is remediated as per the options selected while creating remediation action or prompt.

View Results
